Results of the 10th DHC Translation Contest

The winners of the 10th DHC Translation Contest were officially announced in August, 2002. There were a total of 335 entries in the Japanese-to-English contest, which featured a passage about computer viruses that was written by Mr. Tatsuo Ito. Mr. Ito supervised the contest and its judging. Judging assistance was provided by the members of the DHC U.S. office staff.

As announced in the September 2002 issue of DHC's "C-Press" magazine, the top prize winner in the Japanese-to-English contest was Ms. Naomi Inoue of Aichi-ken, who won the grand prize of 1 million yen. Two runner-up prizes of 300,000 yen each went to Mr. Mark Paul Arends of Kanagawa-ken and Ms. Els Claeys of Tokyo. Also, five additional entrants received honorable mention awards and 100,000 yen each: Mr. Hiroshi Ohira of Kanagawa-ken, Ms. Kyoko Kasuga of the United States, Ms. Yoko Tomita of Chiba-ken, Ms. Hiromi Yamamoto of Tokyo, and Ms. Maki Morisaki of Kanagawa-ken. Congratulations to the winners, and thanks to all who participated in both contests!

The results of both contests, including commentary by the authors, interviews with the winners, the text of the winning entries, and the names of all of the top applicants who made it past the second round of judging, were announced in the August 21, 2002 issue of the magazine Tsuyaku Honyaku Journal.

The top winners in both contests also earned opportunities to work for the DHC Translation Department. In addition, the top winners received free subscriptions to the English version of Newsweek magazine. All of the winners received free DHC correspondence courses.
